Nanajamma - sign language

Nanjamma is a CBR worker. Here in one the urban slums of Bangalore she is giving speech therapy and sign language lessons to Shiva, a ten year old boy who is hearing impaired..Nanjamma is 23 and suffered from polio as a child. She became aware of disability issues through a CBR worker who visited her slum and decided to become involved. She took a training course at APD and now works with 60 disabled children in the slums of Bangalore. "The CBR worker gave me a lot of motivation and I decided that I wanted to become a CBR myself. My salary is only Rs 2,800 (about 35 GBP) a month but I am very happy. I do social work and help others" she says..
